Mars as a Relay Base Station for Exploring the Solar System
Is the concept of building colonies on the Moon and Mars a good step for exploring the rest of the Solar System? Indeed it does make a lot of sense to have fuel stops and outpost resting points for such exploratory endeavors.
Recently this comment came up in an online think tank. And a fellow thinker stated “Perhaps once we create a base colony on mars, we can work our way to the end of our solar system by hopping from moon base to moon base. Supposedly the Bush administration has set a goal to get to Mars by 2030″
You know as great as this sounds and all, well for me not good enough, under whelming, pathetic considering our current technology, not a worthy goal, as it is a given. Simply not trying hard enough or pushing the envelope, it is a weak goal and one, which is not keeping with best of breed or our strength as a nation. I cannot support dismal goals or half-ass efforts. Although a supporter of the concept and the Administration, I cannot be impressed with piss poor performance or weakness. It is not an American Trait and certainly not the America I have come to love and respect. Let s take some risks and let s up the ante. We can do anything, but low expectations make humans weak, I hate weakness, any weakness. We should be celebrating strength of the species not succumbing to weakness.
Have you given much thought to this issue? How do you feel about waiting for 25 years to put a colony on Mars? Is that acceptable to you? Do you support such a slow time frame at a time when science is moving so fast? Consider this in 2006.
